HEALING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD by John Rademaker

INTRODUCTION TO LESSON 2

Lesson 1 is a prerequisite to this teaching. http://tinyurl.com/7m7wpvu   The complexity of the theology, issues and practices of healing prayer compels us to further study and action.  A passionate prayer lifestyle and a compassionate interaction with the needy are spiritual necessities in your pursuit of the Gift of Healing.

Make your resolve today one of  determined investigation and lifestyle as you  seek out those in need of healing prayer.

There are few things in your Christian life that will match the satisfaction and joy of seeing someone healed by your prayers of faith.  Don’t miss it!

Lesson 2  April 22

1.   RESOURCES

Scripture, history and the training have given us ample resources to undertake an effective prayer ministry for healing.  Our understanding of obedience to engage these resources become the challenge.  These resources are multifaceted.  The Holy Spirit and Kingdom of God are intangible.  The others are for us to touch and hold.

The Resources include

1.1  The Power of the Holy Spirit / Jesus / Father God

1.2 Commission – Commands of Jesus

1.3 The Cross – central to all healings

1.4 The Word – Promises and Principles

1.5 Establishment of Kingdom of God

1.1 THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT / JESUS / FATHER GOD

We pray for what we know and see but also according to Romans 8:26,27.  “The Spirit too comes to help us in our weakness. For when we cannot choose words in order to pray properly the Spirit expresses our plea in a way that could never be put into words...."

The healing power is SPIRITUAL and affects all aspects of our being.  Anointing oil is a symbol of healing and invitation for the power to come. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, no healing can occur.

1.2 COMMISSION - THE COMMANDS OF JESUS

Jesus told us to do His works.

His command in John 14:12 / Matt 10:8  / Mark 16:17 are the permission we need to pursue the hand of God in healing from sickness.

1.3 THE CROSS    - is central to all healing from Jesus.

Matt. 8:16,17  - every infirmity laid on His body on the cross.

Isaiah 53:4 / 1 Peter 2:24  - by His stripes we are HEALED

The cross is not just a symbol of healing from inherited sin ( salvation) but also for many miracles and signs in scripture

Exodus 15:23-26  - Moses cast tree (cross symbol) in bitter water after murmuring of the people.

1.4  THE WORD OF GOD (WOG) contains the fundamental promises and principles for healing prayer.  It is our road map to success.

Psalm 107: 19,20   “They cried out in troubled.  He saved them.  He sent his Word and healed them.  He delivered them from SICKNESS.

Romans 10:17  Faith comes by hearing / healing by the WOG

Proverbs 4:20-23   Word in your heart brings health to all flesh

a.    Give attention to the WOG

b.    Incline ear – Humility  (James 1:19 meekness)

c.    Let it not depart (Focus)

d.    Midst of heart (Centering)

1.5  ESTABLISHMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD  (KOG)

The theology of the KOG is complex, but Jesus made it a reality here and now on earth with His works and teaching.   We focus on the NOW of the KOG and not become discouraged by the NOT YET KOG coming later in its fullness.

Luke 17:20    The KOG with you (an intentional resource of goodness and peace)

Matthew 6:10   Your Kingdom come (Lord’s prayer)

Matthew 12:28  Cast out demons and KOG comes

Matthew 10: 5-7  KOG at hand.   heal sick / cleans unclean / raise up / cast out

2.   PREREQUISITES TO HEALING

Some basic requirements that should be exhibited in healing prayer (not an exhaustive list)  include:

   FOR THE MINISTER (PRAY-ER)

     2.1 Love

     2.2 Faith

     2.3 Compassion

     2.4 Confidence and Boldness

     2.5  Purity and Wholeness

     2.6 No Barriers

FOR THE RECIPIENT

     2.2 Faith

     2.7 Forgiveness

     2.8 Desperation

     2.5  Purity and Wholeness

     2.6 No Barriers

2.1 LOVE  Praying for people includes loving them as the Second Commandment  "...love your neighbor as yourself."

- The LOVE OF JESUS must be revealed thru us in the prayer engagement

           - Healing

- Comes from GOD"S LOVE for manking

- Our faith to pray is a declaration of that LOVE

- A lack of love removes a primary platform from which to launch our prayer of FAITH

          - The recipient can acknowledge LOVE FOR GOD and open the receiving channel

2.2 FAITH

  -  Here we deal with the FAITH of both the GIVER (Prayer-er) and RECIPIENT (RECEIVER)

         -  Many of Jesus’ miracles were after the SICK asked / acknoledged / declared their FAITH for healing.

         -  The sick person should posture their spirit towards God in humility (not frustration) and openness (to whatever the  outcome is

        -  This is not a faith formula or system procedure

       -  CHRIST looked for FAITH  Matthew 9:28  Mark 9:23

       -   CHRIST congratulated the DEMONSTRATION OF FAITH  Matthew 8:10, 9:22

 -  CHRIST  rebuked the LACK OF FAITH   Luke 9:41

 Blue p. 99

    2.3 COMPASSION

Jesus was the master of  COMPASSION

-  Ultimate compassion / love was death on cross

-  COMPASSION for the sick and harassed came from an overwhelming sorrow and identity with the suffering

-  Jesus projected into the being of the sick – we need to do the same at an intensity one can best achieve

Matthew 14:14  Jesus had COMPASSION and healed the sick

Matthew 9:35-36  Describe the sick as harassed and helpless

Mark 1:40  overwrought (filled) with COMPASSION Jesus heard SICK cry.  If you are willing  Jesus accepted sick cry “I AM WILLING”

                  2.4 CONFIDENCE & BOLDNESS

From HRV people we learn that confidence and boldness helps the prayer.  Calling on our resources helps our willingness to risk.

RISK! After praying for cripple, then ask them to walk.  (I still can’t do this.)

CLAIMING THE POWER OF GOD shown by Jesus can remove timidity and doubt.

BOLD and AGGRESSIVE prayers like Jesus did may be our only way to the next level of revelation of the KOG in healing of the sick.

2.5 PURITY AND WHOLENESS

God is pleased with the pure heart and the wholeness of a believers life.  The assumption here is that when sin is present in  this process, the pleasure of God is reduced.  It doesn’t mean sinners can’t be healed, but why risk a lower chance outcome by clinging to sinful practices or attitudes.

2.6 BARRIERS – THIS IS COMPLEX AND WIDE REACHING

2.6.1)  IGNORANCE of God’s Word and Will

Isaiah 5:13  Therefore my people have gone into captivity because they have no knowledge

Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge

Knowing God’s Word is foundational to receiving healing.  Seeking truth and the promises of scripture is a critical prerequisite.

  2.6.2) UNBELIEF
Hebrews 3:12   Beware lest there be in any of you an evil, heart, in departing from the living God.  (Unbelief is called sin and evil)

  2.6.3) UNCONFESSED SIN

Proverbs 28:13  “he who covers his sin will not prosper.”

Holy Spirit reveals hidden sin.

UNFORGIVENESS TOWARDS OTHERS

Mark 11:25  “if you have anything against anyone, forgive him.”

Matthew 18:22  - unmerciful servant

  2.6.4) INVOLVEMENT IN OCCULT

- Deceptive and subversive

- Exodus 23:24   You shall utterly overthrow them and completely break down their sacred pillars

- Exodus 24:25   Serve your God and I will take away SICKNESS

Curses are facilitated by Horoscopes / fortune tellers / masks / evil eye / Mayan plates  / souveneirs

 2.6.5) UNGODLY COVENANTS

Freemasonry / generational carry over – check out your family tree.

 2.6.6) EFFECTS OF A CURSE – indicators

-  history of mental and emotional breakdown

-  hereditary / CHRONIC sickness

-  miscarriages and tumors in female organs

-  financial insufficiency – remaining in poverty syndrome

accident prone

-  suicidal tendencies

Prayer for freedom from curses

“Thank-you Jesus that on the cross you were made a curse so that I might be redeemed from the curse and enter into the blessing.  Because of what you did, I release myself from every curse over me and my family in your name.  I claim the blessings that you purchased with your blood.  Thank-you Jesus.”

  2.6.7) GENERATIONAL BONDAGE AND CURSES

     - can influence us today from years and centuries back unknown to us

     - sexual sin of ancestor

     - spiritism

     - occultic activity

     - addictions

     - criminal activity

A general prayer of release and deliverance is usually adequate to obtain freedom of the effects of such sins

-  ROOT issues of evil influences usually hidden and sometimes takes Word of knowledge to identify
-  BEST to assume something is there and get relief if you think there is a chance of presence of a curse

          2.6.8) EMOTIONAL SPIRITS

-  may not cause sickness directly but hinder healing

-  they can cause an attitude that hinders

-  common attitudes or emotional conditions include

-  Rejection – “nobody likes me

  “my parents didn’t love me

  “my spouse left me

-  Frustration -  why have I not been healed yet

Grief – eventual displacement with joy and contentment. Replacing mourning with the oil of gladness

-  Depression   - For freedom from depression

See  “God’s Word Hears”   Derek Prince   p.170  ch.10

                                -  Memories     - vivid recollections / dreams of traumatic past events

                                - Theophostic Prayer to overcome the past

2.7 FORGIVENESS

An unforgiving spirit is a serious hindrance to healing. Jesus condemned the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18:35  God will treat you likewise unless you “FORGIVE”.

Forgiveness is a critical platform from which to approach GOD for healing. If you are locked in un-forgiveness even way back in your early life, you need to be freed by praying a prayer of forgiveness “Jesus I forgive ____________________ for _______________________________________________.  I ask for release of being captive to an unforgiving spirit.

2.8 DESPERATION

Western culture tries to eliminate desperation, we have and seek fall back options.  If one thing doesn’t work, we try another

    -  HRV people are DESPERATE.  They have no options.  Their simple and  primitive lifestyle reveals a pure desperation for Jesus and His healing (out of demonic oppression / possession)

-                          No distractions / only DESPERATION

           -  When He heals them (salvation) they throw themselves with wreckless less faith abandon on Him in full dependence

THE SICK AND DESPERATE AROUND JESUS included

 a) Man at pool – not fast enough

                      -   one eye in pool / both eyes on Jesus

 b) Lady touching hem of Jesus garment

-  DESPERATE and afraid

-   reach out to touch / received

c) Phoencian Woman  Matthew 15: 21-28    cried for demonized daughter.  Jesus resists bread / she takes crumbs / rebuked as dog

-  took what she could get / DESPERATE

                                     -  faith persisted / healing came

3.   OUTCOMES

3.1 INSTANT HEALING

    - immediate relief evidenced by freedom from symptoms of sickness

    - keep thanking for healing

3.2 PROGRESSIVE HEALING

      - slower regeneration of tissue supported by SOAKING PRAYER to continue the healing.

3.3  NON HEALINGS

    - some at WCV ask “Why am I not healed after so many years?

      Deuteronomy 29:29  SECRETS OF GOD

“The secret things belong to God.”  God is under no obligation to reveal things He chooses to keep secret.

4.   OTHER CONSIDERATIONS / CONDITIONS

4.1  SUFFERING  - Does it have redemptive value

- Can it be God's chastening love?

-  Paul’s “thorn in the flesh”  Galatians 4:13-14 – “Disgusted by my disease.”

-  nowhere in scripture do we see Jesus encouraging the sick to endure their illness

-  St. Gregory the Great 5th Century – view that suffering is preferable for the sake of the soul

-  Blessed Henry (15th Century) – treated the body as an enemy to be subdued / chastening the flesh .  He equated  it to Jesus suffering on the cross

Celibacy in the Roman Catholic Church is a remote form of ‘basic contempt for the body and sacrificial suffering.”

4.2  Generally Jesus’ behavior towards the sick seems to negate the theology of enduring suffering

4.3  Brokenness in Spirit on the way to holiness (contrition) has its value

4.4  Two Kinds of Suffering

      1) CROSS of JESUS was PERSECUTION – comes from wickedness of OTHERS outside of our being

      2) SICKNESS – from within caused by internal COSMIC BATTLE

5.   EXORCISM

EXORCISM  - Formal Ecclesiastical prayer to free someone possessed by evil sprit

DELIVERANCE – process of prayer to free someone who is OPPRESSED (INFESTED) but not possessed

     5.1 EXORCISM

-   in Catholic church requires permission of Bishop (rarely given)

-  not by a bunch of teenage girls authorized by a minister as seen on Anderson Cooper special on CNN

-  demonic possession was common in Jesus’ day

Is it today?  How is it manifested?  Anger / murder / violence

    5.2 DELIVERANCE

If a demonic spirit manifests during prayer the only safe response is

a)    address the demonic in the name of Jesus and rebuke the power

b)    ask the person to say “Jesus Christ help me.”   (indicates the willingness to be free)

c)    a genuine learning of the evil spirit manifested in screaming, mouth frothing, flaying of the body.

6.   GIFT OF HEALING   (1 Corinthians 12:9)

As with any other GIFT OF THE SPIRIT, the manifestation of this gift comes primarily from an intimate and passionate relationship with Christ and God.  The fruits of the Spirit will be exhibited and a posture of humility and love will override any tendency toward self projections (impure motivation).  The Gift of Healing is revealed when someone is healed by the prayer of another.

Anyone with this gift is spotted by others and would eventually be driven to HIDE (as Jesus did at times) .

Growth / learning / obedience are ongoing with anyone desiring the gifts of                     1 Corinthians 12

Macnutt pg. 243 "Praying for healing is more like my having a potential to be used by God than a gift which is under my power . The gift is not for (about)the minister of healing but for the sick person ;he is the one who receives the gift of health(healing)"

7.   MINISTRY TO POOR AS PLATFORM FOR HEALING

Isaiah 58:1-10  -  God’s chosen FIRST believers are encouraged to model this passage and ministry to the POOR

vs 8a  “Your healing will appear as a result of compassionate action to the poor and sick.”

HEALING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Notes on HEALING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD - a Two Lesson Teaching begins February 26, 2012 by John Rademaker.
(The second Lesson will be on April 22nd.)

HEALING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD by John Rademaker

1.     INTRODUCTION

1.1 VINEYARD VALUES EXPERIENCE – BRIEF HISTORICAL

-         John Wimber’s pursuit of a workable healing model launched the Signs & Wonders movement   in the 1970’s.

-         A paradigm shift from the western worldview to the Third World experience was a major shakeup of the evangelical grid on those who were open to change.

-         Personally, my experience of a major healing in the early 90’s convinced me that the Vineyard’s Healing Model was real and doable for all.

-         It seemed that those who were touched by the Power of God (miracles / prophetic / words of knowledge ) had little difficulty accepting the reality of the Kingdom of God in action now on earth.

-         The change was refreshing, powerful and fulfilling for those who responded.

-         The Vineyard Church flourished with growth to over 1000 Churches worldwide based on Worship / Signs & Wonders / and the freedom of Charismatic Spiritual expression.

2.   HEALING MINISTRY OVERVIEW

Praying for HEALING is only one facet of the Signs & Wonders value of the Vineyard.  The powerful impact and results of prayer over the years has attracted many to learn and engage in things that Jesus did.

Accepting the belief that the teaching/modelling and acts of Jesus are transferable to Christians today provided a new dimension of ministry in today’s Church.  Healing prayer became important because of the results and obedience of people to believe and act in faith to the promises of Jesus.

3.   POSTURING OURSELVES TO UNDERSTAND THE SPIRITUAL DYNAMICS

It is important to clarify our understanding of the SPIRITUAL WARFARE and the clash of powers around us.

Theological and Biblical concepts about sin, sickness and healing (inherited wrongness of man’s condition).

The Jesus model of combatting evil with good, will assist us in developing a realistic and powerful healing ministry model. Our prayers for others can become much more effective if we are directed by the truth and influences surrounding sickness.

Praying correctly with the eyes of Jesus and the Power of the Holy Spirit supporting us will increase the possibility of a healing.  Speaking to the condition and possible causes is crucial for effective prayer.

3.1THE GOODNESS OF GOD AND JESUS

-     God desires the ultimate healing of all spiritual, psychological and physical sickness (Matt 7:11)

-     God sent Jesus to earth to live as man and die as part of the Godhead for our sins. (Luke 9:11)

-     Jesus spent much of his ministry combatting evil and healing the sick, driving out demons, restoring and reconciling Man to health.  Mark 2:1-12 / Mark 5:28,34 / Luke 8:26-30

-     Jesus drove out demons.  Matt 12:28  “If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, the Kingdom of God has come upon you” (demons are Satans warriors.  SPIRIT OF GOD is the Power, KINGDOM OF GOD is the result of healing).

-     Jesus acts of Healing and deliverance were / are the weapons of His assault on Satan’s pseudo kingdom and the destruction of evil.  Matt 12:29  strong man / stronger man.  1 John 3:8

-     The establishing of the Kingdom of God on earth NOW is central to the healing ministry of Jesus (and ours).  (Matt 12:28)

-         Health and goodness were given to all who Jesus healed.  Freedom and deliverance brought wholeness.

-     Jesus does only what the Father wills. All healings come from God.  John 5:19   “The Son can do nothing by himself.  He can do only what the Father is doing.”

-     The commissioning of the 12 disciples Matt 10:7  and the 72 later Luke 10:9 is transferable to all believers NOW.  John 20:21  “As the Father sent me so send I you.”

Quote: Martin   p.64

“On every page of Luke’s Gospel, the deep sympathy of Jesus for people, ,  is apparent  with their wrecked lives, physical and mental sufferings, heart rendering sorrows, the tragedy of their sins and His determination to right their lot.”

CONCLUSION

The Power of God and Jesus through the Holy Spirit conquers the wrongness and debilitating effects of Satans demons onslaught on mankind.  The transferability of the Jesus model of Healing ministry is paramount to continuing the coming of the Kingdom of God to suffering humanity and the freedom and peace that comes from the faith in Christ and His healing.

3.2 SIN / SICKNESS AND SATAN’S PSEUDO KINGDOM

Quote: Ken Blue pg. 66  “Scripture teaches that the essential wrongness of original sin is at the core of the man’s suffering from sin and the exploitation of Satan.   Adam delivered mankind into the hands of Satan who became the false king of the earth.  (Satan’s pseudo kingdom)

Psalm 51:5 “Surely I was sinful at birth.”

1 John 3:8  “The reason Jesus appeared was to destroy the works of the Devil.

Matt 8: 16-17  “They brought him many who were possessed by Devils.  He cast out spirits and cured the sick – fulfilling the prophecy.  ‘He took our sickness away and carried our diseases for us’

-  Jesus met Satan here on earth at the highest level of warfare

3.3 THE COSMIC BATTLE OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS

Matt. 12:28   “If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.

-     Healing prayer must reach into the core conflict of warfare.  The Kingdom of God is established (now but not yet) NOW on earth when Satan is rebuked and Jesus is victorious.

 Quote: Leech pg. 132

“The coming of the Kingdom of God and the achievement of Spiritual freedom is seen in terms of setting individuals free from MANS’ SLAVERY TO SATAN’S  PROMISES.  Christ conquered these promises.  Jesus exorcisms stood at the heart of His healing work”.

  • Realizing the intensity of the spiritual battle raging in those who are afflicted can help us understand and pray correctly.    Casting out devils evil spirits has been a tentative area for many to engage in but boldness exhibited by Jesus can encourage us to step forward and engage.

Quote: Blue pg. 83  “It is true that we should not take the demonic lightly.  We must never forget that ALL demonic power has been once and for all BOUND BY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. “

Luke 13:10-11  Woman bent over and crippled by a spirit for 18 years.  Jesus did not address a demon in this healing.  “Woman you are set free from your infirmity.”

Quote: Blue pg. 84  “Not all Jesus healing were limited to demons, but it may be said that the existence of sickness in this world belongs to the character of this age of which Satan is prince and his demon helpers.”

While not all sicknesses are the work of demons, they may be all seen as the work of Satan.

 Jesus rebuked demons.  Mark 9:25.

-     Kingdom of God on earth is only partial (now and not yet)

-     Raging evil forces attack the advancement of the Kingdom of God daily.

-     Man has a free will to choose evil.  Not even God can prevent man from making evil choices  that result in suffering.

-     Matt. 12: 43-45   Jesus explains  “Even if the Kingdom of God drives out evil, the evil may return seven fold stronger if not prevented.”  (the battle heats up even after a healing and Satanic rebuke.)

-     Quote: Blue pg. 94   “The victor  of the battle is already crowned.  Still there are many sick and suffering, demonized and bound among us who are shackled by the unsanctioned and illegal power of Satan.

-     The effectiveness of the Kingdom of God against evil is in part contingent on the obedience of the Church to engage demonic forces.

   RAISING THE DEAD

Quote: Blue pg. 87  “Death is a by-product of man’s sin and is a particularly strong element in Satan’s dominion on earth.”

1 Cor. 15:26  Last enemy is death.

When Jesus raised the dead, he manifested strong intervention on that dominion.

WCV’s only encounter with raising the dead happened in the early 90’s when Noel Issacs’ father was raised from the dead by the passionate prayers of his family.  He recounts his visit with Jesus and frustration of coming back from glory.

4.     JESUS’ COMMISION TO HIS DISCIPLE’S TO CONTINUE HIS WORKS OF HEALING   (This includes you and me)

John 14:12  “ Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. “

- Sent out 12:72 Disciples with power to heal. Strong presence of Holy Spirit & Faith  resulted in many more miracles happening.

- They commanded every believer to do it.  JOHN 20:21

- We have seen many miracles with more to come.

- What are we waiting for?

   5. CLINIC  TRY THESE TIPS WHEN YOU PRAY FOR THE SICK THE NEXT TIME

5.1 INTERVIEW  Become aware of the exact nature of the sickness – engage with compassion /  Ask the person what they want to happen (healing).

5.2 SPEAK CLEARLY AGAINST THE EVIL FORCES  that bind the person / causing the sickness.  Be only as direct as you are comfortable with.  These are suggestions to pray out.

In the name of Jesus, I rebuke the cause of this sickness.

I speak against the enemy who has caused this sickness.  I pray for release from this sickness and  suffering.

5.3 INVITE THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT  to come and become victorious over the sickness and heal.  Anoint this person with oil – a dot on the forehead is symbolic of the healing power of the Holy Spirit.

I pray for the manifest healing power of Jesus and the spirit of God to touch this person and remove this affliction.

I pray for wholeness for this person from this affliction.

I pray that the Holy Spirit would fill this person with His presence and healing power

5.4 ASK THE PERSON TO LIFT HANDS and reach up for healing from Jesus (an act of faith).

Ask the person to visualize touching the hem of Jesus’ garment (as an act of faith) and receive healing.

Ask the person to continue to ask Jesus for healing (an act of faith to ask Jesus for what he wants.)

5.5  LISTEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT for revelation, images or words you might receive about the condition while you are praying (words of knowledge).  Share them.

Take risks / don’t be afraid to pray boldly / Making mistakes is part of the learning curve.

5.6  Your faith / confidence  and boldness will be rewarded by healings and the comfort of the Holy Spirit telling you He approves if you act on  Jesus.

5.   WHAT OUR HIMALAYAN VINEYARD CHURCHES HAVE TAUGHT US ABOUT HEALING / DELIVERENCE AND FREEDOM IN THE SPIRIT

The believers in the 24 churches of the Himalayan Region Vineyards (HRV) that have started in the last 16 years are all first generation Christians.

They have come to Jesus by experiencing the love and compassion of Christian friends.  Their desire for freedom from the bondage of spirits inherent in their Buddhist / Hindu past have provided fertile ground for Healing Prayer.  Their desperation to be healed from physical, spiritual and emotional sickness is a daily challenge for the churches and the Power of the Spirit of God is a lifestyle presence for the believers.

The effectiveness of the Kingdom of God against evil is in part contingent on the obedience of the Church to engage in demonic forces.

Most healing prayer in HRV involves deliverance from demonic oppression and the driving out of evil spirits.  Their prayers are direct and specific.  They know their idols and are willing to cast them off to find freedom.  The stories of healing abound including raising the dead.

The sweetness and gentleness of a believer’s spirit in HRV is refreshing and challenging for Westerners.  The simple lifestyle in an environment of poverty leaves little room for idols of wealth.

The HRV believers have shown us  much towards our understanding of a Healing Prayer ministry that emulates Jesus and shows compassion to the needy.

The Heart of Home
*This amazing, long picture is by a talented good friend named JP*

by Suhail Stephen

On the 14th of August, at around 11pm, Psalm and I moved out of our home of two years in Israel.  We spent the preceding weeks sorting through clothes, cleaning floors and surfaces, trying (with what can only be called “limited success”) to sell various pieces of furniture and household items, emptying drawers and cupboards, packing our belongings into boxes and suitcases, and carrying armfuls of papers to the recycling bin.  It was even more tiresome than reading the list I just wrote.  That night on the 14th, when we finally closed the front door after a day’s worth of hellish labor (primarily due to the fact that our landlords insisted at the last minute that the entire house be repainted), we became homeless.  At least in the physical sense.

One of Our New Boy’s Story in Nepal
Hari Magar

When Hari was one, his father died. The family was already extremely poor, but after the demise of the sole breadwinner, the situation was desperate, thus when Hari was a toddler, his mother remarried. Hari’s new sep- father took an instant and rather violent dislike of Hari. He beat him savagely, and treated him as if he was not a member of the family, refusing to let him sit anywhere near him, or eat with the family. According to Hari, he felt that his mother loved him, but had little choice other than to tolerate her new husband’s behaviour. Without him, they’d have been destitute.

Being a Scary Person for Jesus
by Rod Jersak

The other day Elisa and I rented the movie "Simon Birch", in which a young boy named Simon continually asks the question, "God, do you have a plan for me?" I believe that God does have a specific purpose and plan for each one of us. This can be very exciting, yet scary at the same time. We all want our lives to have purpose while we are living on this earth. Lately, I have repeatedly been asking God this same question..."God, what are your purposes for my life?" The answer that He has been giving me is to "step out!" I was expecting his answer to be a little bit more specific!
